I am a Consultant Surgeon, currently employed by the Western health and social care trust in Northern Ireland. I work mainly at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry/Londonderry and Omagh Hospital Primary Care Complex. I also carry out some sessions in Letterkenny Hospital. I graduated from Birmingham University in 1990 and spent the majority of my junior and senior training on rotations in the West Midlands in the UK. Invaluable training and experience were also gained during a year in a unit in Baragwanath hospital in Soweto, South Africa and The Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, Northern Ireland. I am on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (3442081) and the Irish Medical Council (401926)
Upon completion of my training I settled in Derry/Londonderry, where I have been a Consultant since 2006. My NHS practice now specialises in venous disease and interventions, primarily local anaesthetic treatment of varicose veins (Phlebology). I am currently the clinical co-chair for the delivery of varicose vein services in Northern Ireland. Through this role I have been involved in helping set up the Dedicated Elective Care Centres for varicose vein service delivery in Northern Ireland. The aim of which is to deliver high volume, high quality venous interventions under local anaesthetic as a day case. I am a member of the Council of the Venous Forum at the Royal Society of Medicine having also been an invited speaker at their international conferences. I am a Member of the American Venous and Lymphatic Society, the Society of Vascular Ultrasound and a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland. I am also currently a board member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists and have been a regular speaker and panalist at their educational events . As a registered Phlebology Sonographer, I am accredited as a venous ultrasound specialist. I have recently completed the Diploma in Phlebology from the European College of Phlebologists.
